The Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery is thrilled to announce that our MC for this year’s gala is Rio Olympian, Pan Am Double Gold Medal winner and Kitchener resident, Mandy Bujold.
Just back from Rio, Mandy has graciously offered to host our gala on Thursday October 20th, 2016 as well as to donate a unique item to the Silent Auction. “I am looking forward to hosting this special event as we come together as a community to support the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery,” said Bujold.
Mandy Bujold was born in Cobourg, Ontario. Moving to the Maritimes, she spent her childhood in Moncton, New Brunswick. As a teenager, her family moved to Kitchener, Ontario, attending Forest Heights and calling Waterloo Region her home. It was in Kitchener that Mandy began her boxing career at the young age of 16.
She is a 10 time Canadian National Champion and is the first female boxer in history to win two gold medals at the Pan American Games. What makes these two gold medals even more impressive is that they were won back to back, first in 2011 and then defending her title in 2015.
Mandy represented Canada in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, Brazil.
“We know how people in Kitchener-Waterloo love sports,” says Shirley Madill, KWAG Executive Director. “To add to this passion, this is also a city where a leading contemporary art gallery is celebrating its 60th anniversary! Both industries depend on the support of the community. That is why Mandy’s involvement is great – she understands the role that community support can play in generating success whether as an athlete or an arts organization.”

The Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery’s annual fundraiser, the Black and Gold Gala takes place Thursday October 20th, 2016 at Bingemans.
